Recognition is meaningful when it is connected to the work behind it. The certificate shown in this post records a Bronze award in the Editorial category of One Eyeland's 2021 World's Top 10 Fashion Photo Contest for my image, “Top Of The World.”
I am proud of that recognition. It reflects a part of photography I care deeply about: bringing light, styling, composition, and a clear idea together in a single frame.
A photograph begins with a point of view
Before I make an image, I think about what it should communicate. The location, clothing, light, expression, and movement each contribute to that story. My job is to see how those pieces can work together and make choices that give the photograph a clear intention.
The fashion and editorial images in this collection show different ways of working with those elements. Sometimes the setting gives the photograph its scale. Sometimes the strength comes from a closer view and a person's presence.
Bring the vision and take care of the person
A strong idea works best when the person in front of the camera feels supported. I guide the angle and composition, explain what we are trying, and leave room to experiment. If something does not feel right, we can move on from it.
That reassurance is part of how I work across portraits, fashion, weddings, and events. I want people to feel comfortable trusting me with the photograph, even when they do not know how to describe every image they want.
What I bring to a client's story
At Steph and Micah's wedding in Hawaii, our conversations helped me understand the story they wanted to remember. Afterward, Micah told me he had felt confident leaving the photography in my hands. Steph said I had captured a photograph she wanted without her specifically asking for it.
That feedback matters to me alongside recognition for the images. It connects my vision to the experience of the people I photograph.
